So, it seems I'm suddenly in a good enough financial situation to start thinking about doing some serious investing in the markets come early next year, if I'm not overly optimistic. I'm wondering if anybody out there has done some online investing, and if so, what websites are the most accessible, if any. Thus far, I'm looking at ETrades. I'm a stickler for website accessibility because one of the banks with whom I have an account has a nightmare website, so I'm closing it down and opening an account somewhere else more to my liking. Anyway, any help would be much appreciated. Thanksin advance.
I'd stay with a broker.
Sometimes these sites having moving sections screen readers can't track.
As one who works in the financial sector, my advise would be to visit a bank and see what options they have. Shop around and see what the rates are, what investment options they offer etc. Unless you're really c0onfortable with investing I wouldn't recommend doing it all yourself at first.
I used Ameritrade and really didn't have much trouble at all with it, and JAWS. However, I haven't used it in over a year and a half. I do disagree that going with a local bank or broker is the way to go. I have and do use both but trading your self on line is a great way to learn about stocks. I also think doing trading on your own keeps you interested in the market more so than if you just have some guy putting your money in some big fund. Witch is also a good idea, and you can get into funds online as well.
I use Vanguard for my Roth IRA. Their website isn't too accessible, but their iPhone app is great; this is how I get most of my transactions done. I only need the full-blown website to change trade settings.
Also, you might want to try looking at www.prosper.com; it is a peer-to-peer lending website that is accessible. I have gotten good results from them.
